In order to perform root canal therapy, the root needs to be completely formed. Apexification is a procedure performed to stimulate root growth. This procedure is usually recommended for younger patients whose roots have not fully developed. In this case, the nerves are removed from the canals and an application of calcium hydroxide is used to medicate and initiate the apex closure in order to complete the tooth development.
